Apprenticeship Opportunity – Construction Apprenticeships, Dounreay

Dounreay currently has construction apprentice vacancies for Carpentry/joinery and Scaffolding.

Dounreay’s apprentices are involved in exciting technological projects and develop skills needed in nuclear decommissioning and other industries.

Construction apprenticeships

  • Carpentry and joinery (1 post) – 4-year programme
  • Scaffolding (1 post) – 2-year programme
  • Carpentry and joinery (1 post) – 4-year programme
  • Scaffolding (1 post) – 2-year programme

When applying for a construction apprenticeship you will be considered for both positions unless you state in the additional information section of the application form that you only wish to apply for 1 of them.

Carpentry and joinery

The apprenticeship is a comprehensive training programme lasting up to 4 years. During this time, you will undertake training and work experience at Dounreay with our estate services team and attend UHI North Highland on block release to gain additional skills and qualifications.

The programme requires you to complete SVQ3 (SCQF Level 6) Carpentry and Joinery and a Professional Development Award at Level 5.

Scaffolding and rigging

The apprenticeship is a comprehensive training programme lasting up to 2 years.  During this period, you will undertake training and work experience at Dounreay with our estate services team and attend additional training Glasgow on block release to achieve required qualifications.

The programme requires you to complete SVQ2 (SCQF Level 5) Accessing Operations and Rigging

These apprenticeships provide unique and challenging opportunities. The people we train today will have the opportunity to be involved in some of the most exciting technical projects in the world and to develop skills which will be increasingly needed both at Dounreay and in other areas of industry.

Candidates should have:

  • Achieved National 4 or equivalent, in mathematics and a technical subject
  • Good communication, team working and problem-solving skills
  • Be able to demonstrate practical skills
