Scotland: Aberdeen, Caithness, Clunie, Contin, Dunoon, Dunblane, Dundee, Fort William, Glasgow, Inverness, Oban, Perth, Peterhead

England: Andover, Lowestoft, Melksham, New Forest, Oxford, Poole, Portsmouth, Reading, Salisbury, Slough, Swindon or West London (Hayes)

Salary: circa £19,000 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.  Salary upon finishing the trainee engineer programme is circa £32,000.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

What is the Role? 

Our Trainee Engineer programme lasts for three years and combines academic study with work based experience.Within Distribution you’ll have the opportunity to study towards a HNC in Electrical Engineering.Within Renewables you’ll have the opportunity to study towards a HND in Energy and Environmental Engineering.When not studying, you’ll spend the balance of your time on placements which may include working in the field, at Power Stations and Control Rooms or working alongside experienced SSE crafts people and engineers.By the time you reach the third year of the programme you’ll be given increased responsibility in managing small jobs, including technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of crafts people or contractors. On completion of your programme you will be qualified to work as a Maintenance Engineer, Field Engineer, Project Design Engineer, Systems Planning Engineer or an Operational Control Engineer.

What do I need? 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to be: Highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well.Flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team.Comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending college or on placements across SSE.For entrance onto the educational aspect of our programme it’s important that you have, or expect to achieve the below qualifications prior to starting the programme in September 2022.

– 3 Scottish Highers at grade BCC or above, OR 2 A levels at grade CC or above

– You must have Higher or A level Maths at grade C or above, PLUS

– National 5 Physics or Engineering Science and English at grade C, or GCSE Physics and English at grade C or above, or equivalent

We are happy to accept applications from candidates with equivalent level engineering / technical qualifications such a HNC in an engineering related discipline. We will not be able to accept a HNC in electrical engineering for our Distribution business area as this will be the qualification that you will be studying on the programme.
