The National Teen Book Club

The Speakers for Schools four-week National Teen Book Club programme begins on January 19th, 3.30-4.30pm, and gives students the opportunity to:

  • Meet the UK’s top writers, literary agents and journalists, including Kit De Waal, champion of working-class writers; Jo Unwin, literary agent to Charlie Brooker and Richard Ayoade; and Jon Day, who is a Booker Prize judge and teaches English and Creative Writing and Kings College London.
  • Become a published author themselves – and win masterclasses from top writers and literary agents.
  • Engage in activities and conversations online with students from across the UK, related to the book we’ll read together (My Name Is Leon by Kit De Waal).

The programme is free and fully facilitated and runs for four weeks. Sign up your school here, or students can sign up individually here

  • 79% of young people who attended the last National Teen Book Club said they thought they would read more often for pleasure, as a result of participating, and 48% of young people who attended said they would borrow more books from their school library.
  • If the timing is not quite right for you, we can share access to recordings of the sessions to watch back at a time that works for you and your students – you just need to sign up at the links above to access them (please note no young people are recorded, just the hosts and speakers).
